Wow, what a year it’s been!
As 2024 comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to look back and reflect on an incredible year at Camp Avoda. We’re so thankful for this wonderful year and hope it’s treated each and every one of you just as well. While we’re busy preparing for Hanukkah next week (and, let’s be honest, daydreaming about summer), let’s relive some of the highlights that made Summer 2024 truly unforgettable.
It’s hard to capture all the magic of this past summer in just a few paragraphs, but here are some standout Statistics:
- Campers Galore: Over 200 campers joined us this summer! We welcomed back 170 returning campers and were thrilled to meet 52 first-time campers.
- Top-Notch Staff: Our team was powered by 58 American staff members and 14 international staff members who brought their energy, passion, and diverse perspectives to every activity.
- Epic Adventures: This summer’s field trips were legendary! From the thrills of Water Wizz to the classic charm of a Cape Cod League Baseball Game, and the heights of Tree Top Adventure to the wonders of the Museum of Science, we made memories at every stop.
Scott and the kitchen crew truly outdid themselves this year, keeping us fueled for all the fun. Just a small taste of what we devoured:
- Over 350 trays of pizza
- 400 pounds of wings
- 375 burgers, 200 hot dogs, and 2 dozen veggie burgers served every Sunday
- 270 bags of chips every Shabbat afternoon
- 6 cases of “hand-held” fruit and 15-20 bunches of bananas consumed daily
- Countless pounds of fresh veggies were enjoyed every day at our salad bars!
It’s safe to say no one went hungry!
Color War never disappoints, and this year was no exception. Here are some highlight stats:
- A Week of nonstop competition- sometimes more than 14 hours a day!
- 162 Blue and White T-shirts met their demise (through rips, cuts, or epic stains—sometimes all three!)
- Campers penned 724 letters home during the week of Color War (because yes, they’re required for entry to lunch…ssh!).
- Many man-hours were dedicated to setting up and taking down field cones for competitions. Shoutout to the tireless field crew!
This summer blessed us with particularly sunny days. We only had 2 rainy day activity days, and most of the rain came overnight, keeping our grass lush and green. Mother Nature must love Avoda as much as we do!
Unfortunately, we did suffer a significant loss by the end of the summer—over 400 individual socks mysteriously vanished into the ether. Whether they were left behind in the laundry room, claimed by the campfire, or simply spirited away by mischievous camp elves, we may never know. One thing is certain: the legend of the Missing Socks of Avoda will live on!
As we wrap up 2024, we can’t help but feel immense gratitude for our campers, staff, and Avoda families who make everything we do possible. Thank you for your support, energy, and love that keep the spirit of Camp Avoda alive year after year.
Here’s to 2025—more adventures, more friendships, and more unforgettable summers. Wishing you all a happy Hanukkah and a joyous New Year!
See you soon!
