Our administrative staff comprises trained professionals in such critical fields as family counseling, social work, teaching, and health care. We don’t simply manage the camp’s daily operations, we set and uphold high standards for all our staff and are directly and quickly involved when an issue needs to be resolved
Camp Avoda’s staff is how we differentiate ourselves from other camps. Almost all our counselors were once Avoda campers and successful graduates of the Avoda Counselor-in-Training (C.I.T.) program. We have a camper-to-counselor ratio of 4:1. We are very proud of our counselors – and we should be, because each one was hand-picked based on his experience, maturity, skills, and values. They are your son’s mentors, teachers, coaches, and friends.
To highlight just a few of our senior staff:
Josh Cohen-Camp Rabbi
Josh Cohen is our camp Rabbi. Josh started camp in 2005 and has been with us since then. Josh recently graduated Boston College. He has led our Judaica program now for four years and has even led our annual Israel Trip as well. He has worked extensively with the Foundation for Jewish Camp and led other staff members in all aspects of programming.
Jake Dennis-CIT Director and Athletic Director
Jake just graduated The University of Massachusetts! He started camp in 2003 and simply loves being at camp. Jake excels at teaching campers and staff members traditions, and the importance of brotherhood. He is a varsity athlete who can teach campers sports, skills, and sportsmanship.
Ben Simmons-Senior Counselor
Ben Simmons runs many outdoor programs at Avoda including Ropes and Adventure, Wilderness, Fishing, and Red Cross Swim Instruction. Ben is a National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) alumnus. Ben has hiked and camped in sub-zero temperatures! According to Ben, “Like NOLS, Avoda teaches leadership and teamwork.”
